The Holy Quran says,
“It is neither their meat nor their blood that reaches Allah, but it is piety from you that reaches Him.”
– Surah Hajj, (22:37)
Qurbani, also known as Udhiyah, is a sacred Islamic tradition where Muslims sacrifice an animal (usually a goat or sheep) to commemorate the willingness of Prophet Ibrahim (AS) to sacrifice his son Ismail (AS) in the name of Allah (SWT).
Qurbani is an essential aspect of Eid ul Adha, one of the two major Islamic festivals. It symbolizes the submission to Allah (SWT) and the willingness to sacrifice material possessions for the sake of others. Muslims are encouraged to perform Qurbani to:
–Follow the teachings of Prophet Ibrahim (AS) and the Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ)
–Show gratitude to Allah (SWT) for the blessings and provisions bestowed upon us
–Demonstrate compassion and empathy towards those in need
Muslims are encouraged to distribute one-third of the meat of Qurbani among the needy, poor, and displaced communities. This act of charity is considered a means of seeking Allah’s (SWT) pleasure and forgiveness.
