Standing With Widows for a Self-Reliant Future

The person who strives on behalf of the widows and poor is like those who strive in the way of Allah and like those who fast in the day and pray at night.”’ Prophet Muhammad (pbuh)

Welcome to Afghan Relief’s Widow Support and Empowerment Program

Losing a spouse is an irreplaceable loss and often marks the beginning of economic, social, and emotional hardships for widows. At Afghan Relief, we believe in empowering widows to create a future full of promise and self-reliance.

The Urgent Need for Widow Support: Some Facts

**Over 2 million orphans**:
The conflict in Afghanistan has resulted in a large population of widows.

**High vulnerability**: Many widows are highly susceptible to poverty, discrimination, and exploitation.

These statistics make it abundantly clear that targeted support for widows is necessary.

Why Widow Support?

Supporting widows is an act that is not only encouraged but highly esteemed in Islamic teachings. Our program focuses on more than just immediate needs; we aim for the long-term economic and emotional self-sufficiency of widows.

Our Projects

Economic Empowerment

We offer vocational training, microloans, and small business grants to enable widows to become economically independent. Some of these empowerment projects including sewing training, investments in bakeries and support for animal husbandry.

Educational Support for Children

We provide scholarships and educational supplies for the children of widows, aiming to break the cycle of poverty.

Legal and Social Support

Through partnerships with local organizations, we offer legal advice and social services to protect widows from exploitation and abuse.

Mental Health and Counseling

Widows can access psychological and social support to cope with their loss and the challenges that come thereafter.
